Melodic death metal from Finland just keeps getting better and better, and SAROF are no exception! Already after a few seconds, I was sold. There is just something about the sound on this album that hit me immediately.

Via Discendi is the second full-length album from SAROF, following Force of Will from 2019. It contains nine tracks and runs for just under 40 minutes, and the quality stays high throughout the whole album.

The sound reminds me of the old melodeath scene and that classic Gothenburg sound, and it is so fucking good. Is this the new melodeath sound coming from Finland? I do not know, but it sounds amazing.

The vocals are on point all the way through. There are some great variations in the voice, which give the album exactly what it needs. The guitars are sharp, technical and fucking rhythmic, full of great riffs and some really good solos.

The production is also very good. They have managed to bring out that old-school sound while combining it with a modern production. It sounds sharp and powerful and creates a really strong overall sound, so there is absolutely nothing to complain about here.

It is not until White Flags that I stop for a moment and wonder what is happening with some of the choir vocals and shit. The choir is not exactly a highlight for me, but it is only a small break from the rest of the album, and it does not ruin my overall impression.

My favorite tracks are probably the opener A Way to Eternity, Across the Aeons and the title track Via Discendi. But this is not an album with only a few strong tracks. There are no weak tracks here, and this is an album I will be listening to for a long time.

I recommend people to check out this band because SAROF deserve all the love they can get. If you are looking for some really good melodic death metal, check out Via Discendi.

Rating: 9/10

I'll be spinning more albums — stay tuned!
