Image
Artist: Flykt Origin: Stockholm, Sweden Label: Hammerheart Records Released: June 19, 2026 Genre: Black Metal Follow: Facebook | Instagram Flykt is a name that deserves more attention. This year they released their second album, Sinister Strain, seven years after their debut Charnel Heart — and it's a record that combines aggression with real melodic depth. I reached out to talk about the long road to this album, what drives their sound, and what comes next. 1. For those who haven't discovered Flykt yet, how would you describe the band, and how did everything get started? The band formed in 2016. I joined shortly after, and the first album, "Charnel Heart," was released in 2019. The following seven years have been devoted to the creation of our second album, "Sinister Strain," which was released this June. 2. Where did the name Flykt come from, and does it hold a special meaning for the band? Since I wasn't present at ground zero,...

Cipher System – Torn Between Realities Review: Melodic Death Metal from Sweden (2026)

Image
Artist: Cipher System Origin: Tjörn, Sweden Label: At Dawn Records Released: July 31, 2026 Genre: Melodic Death Metal Rating: 9 /10 Follow: Facebook After 15 years, Cipher System are finally back with a new release, and what a fucking comeback this is! Torn Between Realities starts so fucking strong with Endveiler . This track hit me immediately. The melodies, the energy and Christian Älvestam’s vocals all come together in a way that just works. Älvestam's clean vocals sound almost unchanged after all these years, and they hit exactly where they should. The growls are also on point, and the shifts between the two styles are a big part of what makes this work so well. If you are a fan of Scar Symmetry, you will definitly like this. It is difficult to listen to Torn Between Realities without thinking about the early Scar Symmetry period with Symmetric in Design , Pitch Black Progress and Holographic Universe . The last one also includes my personal favorite Scar...

Soliloquium – Famine Review: Melodic Death/Doom Metal from Sweden (2025)

Image
Artist: Soliloquium Origin: Sweden Label: Meuse Music Records Released: April 11, 2025 Genre: Melodic Death/Doom Metal Rating: 8/10 Listen/Buy: Bandcamp There is something about lying on the beach and just enjoying life that makes me reach for something a bit calmer and more melancholic, maybee it is the sun, the sound of the sea and the fact that everything moves a little slower, but Famine ended up following me here in Spain. Not exactly typical beach music, but this album somehow fitted the moment perfectly. It is dark, emotional and heavy, but also has enough space in it to just sit back and let it sink in. This is a melancholic death/doom album, and when Soliloquium move into the more melodic death metal parts, it feels almost like a revelation. Those moments really hits me. There is a lot of emotions running through this record, and the more you listen, the more you start to feel the desperation, the loss and the sadness behind it. I can also hear progressi...

Revolting – Supernatural Anthems Review: Swedish Death Metal (2026)

Image
Artist: Revolting Origin: Sweden Label: Xtreem Music Released: June 4, 2026 Genre: Death Metal / Old-School Death Metal Rating: 7/10 Listen/Buy: Bandcamp Supernatural Anthems doesn't try to reinvent anything. This is straight up Swedish death metal , delivered with confidence, experience and a clear love for the genre. Fast parts, raw riffs and brutal vocals exactly where they should be.And there is even a darker, heavier side to it, where certain tracks are infused by the doom territory and give the whole thing some extra weight. The guitar work is really good ,the riffs are aggressive and catchy at the same time, and the melodic death metal elements give the songs more character than pure brutality alone. That comes through especially in "Dungeon Overture"  and A Midnight Massacare, tracks where the melodies really get to shine without the album losing its raw edge,  a midnight massacare is probably the most melodic track on the album , a highlight..Tha...
