Sigyn came up as a new release and I had heard the name before, so I had to check it out. Turned out they had an album back in 2023 ,not the most well-known band to me, so I sat down with zero expectations other than melodic death metal, and there it was , melo death.

Opening track "A New Nation" hits you hard right away and sets a solid foundation for what's to come. This is energetic,technically and solid. The synth is clearly meant to add an epic layer, but for me it ends up being more of a distraction than anything else.

The guitars and drums are very on point , lots of double bass blast beats and precise, good riffs. And the vocals are really good ,I mean really fuckin good. Honestly it's the vocals that keep me going from start to finish.

This isn't a revolutionary record, and I've heard this before , but it's a solid tribute to Finnish melodeath. Good drive throughout, but it can get a bit overwhelming , and there are moments where it starts to feel repetitive.

Standouts for me are "A New Nation" and "World in Flames" — the opener and the closer. This reminds me of early Bodom, which probably explains why it hits a little extra.

Sigyn clearly want to make epic and energetic Finnish melodic death metal. Underneath all the symphonic layers there are some genuinely strong riffs  , I just wish they had more room.

Dissentient – Black Galactic Review: Progressive Death Metal from Canada (2026)
