Supernatural Anthems doesn't try to reinvent anything. This is straight up Swedish death metal , delivered with confidence, experience and a clear love for the genre. Fast parts, raw riffs and brutal vocals exactly where they should be.And there is even a darker, heavier side to it, where certain tracks are infused by the doom territory and give the whole thing some extra weight.
The guitar work is really good ,the riffs are aggressive and catchy at the same time, and the melodic death metal elements give the songs more character than pure brutality alone. That comes through especially in "Dungeon Overture" and A Midnight Massacare, tracks where the melodies really get to shine without the album losing its raw edge, a midnight massacare is probably the most melodic track on the album , a highlight..That one hits hard and shows exactly what Revolting can do when brutality and melody work together. Drums and bass do a solid job driving everything forward. The whole thing feels tight, energetic and well produced.
The strongest tracks for me are the opener "Supernatural Anthems", which sets the tone perfectly with that classic old school death metal feel."Upon the Chopping Block" brings more of that doom-like heaviness, which gives the album a nice variation and a darker edge.
Production is exactly what it should be for this kind of record. Powerful, clear and raw enough to keep the old school feel, while every instrument comes through properly. Revolting knows exactly how this is supposed to sound, and it shows.
Supernatural Anthems doesn't try to push Swedish death metal forward ,and it doesn't need to. It delivers exactly what the fans want: short tracks, raw riffs, horror atmosphere, filthy vocals and enough melodic hooks to stick. Solid and entertaining from start to finish.
